Tutoring Sessions

If your child is capable but struggling with confidence, focus, or keeping up — you’re not alone.

Many children don’t just need help with the work.

They need the right type of support — structured, supportive, and tailored to how they learn.

That’s exactly what our tutoring sessions are designed to provide.

More than tutoring...

At Drafting Minds, sessions are not just about completing work or catching up.

They are designed to:
• build strong literacy and numeracy skills
• develop confidence and independence
• support focus, engagement, and behaviour
• create consistent, meaningful progress

We focus on both what your child is learning and how they feel while learning.

Each session follows a clear and supportive structure:

• a calm, low-pressure start to help your child settle
• targeted teaching of literacy or numeracy skills
• guided practice with support
• opportunities to try independently
• a positive wrap-up focused on success

Sessions are adjusted in real time, so your child feels supported without becoming overwhelmed.

What happens during a session...

Sessions are tailored to your child’s needs and may include:

Literacy
• learning letter sounds and reading strategies
• building reading confidence and fluency
• understanding what they read
• spelling and writing

Numeracy
• building number understanding
• addition, subtraction, and early multiplication
• problem-solving
• developing confidence with maths

Skill areas we support...

We offer different session formats to suit your child’s needs and personality.

1:1 Tutoring
This is the most personalised option. Your child receives:
• full individual attention
• teaching tailored exactly to their level
• support paced specifically for them
• a strong relationship that builds trust and confidence

This is ideal for children who:
• need targeted support
• are building confidence
• benefit from a calm, focused environment

Small Group Tutoring (with familiar peers)
Small group sessions are carefully structured and consist of children who are known to each other and appropriately matched. Your child benefits from:
• learning alongside peers in a safe, familiar environment
• opportunities to practise skills in a social setting
• increased confidence through shared experiences
• continued individual support within the group

These sessions are not overwhelming or crowded — they are designed to remain supportive, structured, and low-pressure.

Online Tutoring
Online sessions offer flexibility while maintaining the same quality and structure. Your child will:
• engage in interactive, guided learning
• follow clear, structured tasks
• receive individualised support in a familiar home environment

This is ideal for families needing flexibility or children who feel more comfortable learning at home.

How are sessions delievered?

We use teaching methods that are based on well-established research into how children learn best.

Literacy
We use structured, step-by-step teaching to help children learn to read with confidence. This includes:
• teaching sounds and how they connect to letters
• helping children sound out and read words
• building reading fluency over time
• supporting understanding and vocabulary

This means your child is not just guessing or memorising — they are learning how to read properly and independently.

Numeracy
In maths, we focus on building strong understanding — not just getting the right answer. We:
• teach concepts step-by-step
• use hands-on and visual supports where needed
• help children understand how numbers work
• build problem-solving skills
• practise skills in different ways to strengthen understanding

This helps children feel more confident and capable when approaching maths.

Our evidence-based approach

If your child is already supported by other professionals, we can align with those recommendations.

This may include:
• strategies from occupational therapists
• consistent approaches across settings
• support for focus, regulation, and learning

Working alongside other supports

Over time, we build a strong understanding of your child and what they need.

This allows us to support:
• confidence and willingness to try
• emotional responses to learning
• frustration or avoidance
• independence and resilience

Support becomes more personalised as we get to know your child.

Personalised support for your child
